Communication between Home and School

Meet-the-Teacher

Progress Report and Report Cards

Students in grades 1-6 will receive a progress report in the fall and 2 formal report cards a year. Kindergarten students receive a Communication of Learning - Initial Observations in the fall and 2 Communication of Learning reports - one in February and one in June. Teachers prepare the ‘Comments’ sections to reflect students’ strengths and areas for growth with suggestions on how to improve achievement.

Education Week
During Education Week, we have a variety of activities to celebrate.

Classroom Communication
Teachers communicate in a variety of ways. A classroom newsletter, class email, twitter and google classroom are a variety of means by which teacher communicate on a regular basis outlining classroom programming, updates on classroom activities and special events.

Permission Forms
Permission forms are sent home to be signed for any class trips or sports events so that parents will be aware, in advance, that children are leaving the regular school environment. Please return the signed portion to the school and keep the upper portion as a reminder of the upcoming field trip.

Meetings with Teachers
We encourage parents to request a meeting with the teacher at any time throughout the school year. We appreciate opportunities to work as a team for the benefit of your child.

Phone Calls
Please feel free to telephone the school with your questions, concerns and/or compliments. The answering service is on 24 hours a day, so leave a message at your convenience and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Discussion with the Principal or Vice-Principal
Principals and Vice-principals advocate for each child in the school and always have time to meet with students or parents.

If you have a concern within the classroom setting, please ensure that you have discussed this with the teacher before bringing the matter to the Principal or Vice-Principal so that you are aware of the child's and the teacher's perspective. In a large school walk-in meetings may not be the most effective manner to have a good conversation on a matter. The Vice-Principal is only available for half of the day as he has teaching responsibilities for the other half of the day. Your meeting with one of the Administration team, may be more effective if you phone ahead of time so that they can arrange their schedules to give you the time and attention you deserve.
