Outdoor Classroom Update!
Shovels in the Ground Soon! The outdoor classroom will be built this summer! Final construction drawings have been received and the contractors have been hired. Work is expected to take place in July and August. The outdoor classroom will be located on the north side of the school yard, and will consist of an accessible wood chip path way, a mix of boulder and log seating and small log activity tables. Construction is expected to be completed before school resumes in September.

To support the teachers in using the new outdoor classroom, in October, each teacher will have a 30 minute session with a Forest School Canada educator to experience a lesson taught in the outdoor classroom. Curriculum-linked “teacher toolkits” (lesson plans in a box) will be developed for the various grade levels and made available to all staff.

The outdoor classroom was funded approximately 50/50 through fundraising and grants. Thank you to all the families who have participated in Council’s fundraising events – without your participation, the outdoor classroom would not have been possible! Be sure to stay tuned for details of the “ribbon cutting” celebration in the fall!!
